Extraordinary times call for extraordinary leadership. The 2009 Forum gives you the opportunity to be exposed to the most contemporary thinking available and to position yourself to drive the on-going success of your organisation. Interact with your peers, senior executives, from across a range of industries, at a five star venue, for this prestigious professional development event.

We encourage you to book early to secure your place.

In the 2009 Senior Executive Forum, the AIM•UWA Business School Alliance is proud to bring to Perth two distinguished Professors whose content, research and thinking is the most up-to-date in the world. The two Professors bring the excitement of the famous Harvard Business School teaching style and their stunning insight into the challenges facing the leader in 2009, to create a most rewarding learning experience.

Professor Michael Tushman has an established global reputation for his work on transformational change. Now, in these unprecedented times, his work takes on greater relevance. Short, one-off changes are relatively easy. Sustainable change that sets the organisation on a path to longer term success is more difficult and requires the subtlety, finesse and strategic insight that will be the focus of Professor Tushman’s work during the Forum.

Professor Scott Snook extends this theme to the role of the leader. Leading in difficult times can be the true test of leadership. Resilience, hardiness and the ability to cope with adversity will distinguish the real leaders over the coming months and years. Professor Snook will challenge your thinking, your assumptions and your behaviours to reveal leadership strategies for today’s leaders.

Transformational Change

Professor Michael Tushman understands the complexity of organisational change better than most. He recognises the interconnectedness of managerial problem solving, innovation, organisational alignment and leading change. His focus during the Forum will be on the role of senior teams in developing the architecture required to innovate over time.

One of the primary challenges for individuals who make up these senior teams is to manage the immediacy of today whilst positioning for the challenges of tomorrow. Professor Tushman describes this conundrum as ambidextrous organisational architectures which place a premium on the leader’s ability to execute strategy and lead change.

Given the inevitability of change in the current world, the insights offered in these sessions will help you seize the opportunities offered by change rather than simply respond.

Leading in Difficult Times

Even the most successful and skilful of managers experience difficult times in their career. Since none of us are immune to failure, the challenge becomes: What are the most common sources of derailment and how might we avoid them? If they can’t be avoided: How might we respond in a more positive way? Professor Scott Snook will explore these authentic issues for senior executives through a series of lively, highly relevant case studies, each of which are designed to draw out the essence of how senior executives should best respond to adversity.

In the second of his sessions, the focus will move to leadership style flexibility. Using a fast-paced, highly interactive case he will challenge the assumptions about human nature, motivation and leadership style. By exploring the relationship between leadership style and performance, participants will be able to reflect and discover for themselves the fundamentals of effective leadership and development.

Professor Snook’s engaging, participative style will ensure all participants are tested in terms of their thinking, their assumptions and their willingness to explore alternative ways of leading.
