What is it?
Skills Recognition is the term used to describe a number of assessment processes resulting in the formal recognition of competencies (skills, knowledge and attitudes) that a person has acquired through formal training, work experience and/or life experience. Through these processes, people may not need to attend training programs and can direct their training energies towards areas of more immediate need.
Skills Recognition may encompass one or more assessment processes to recognise people’s competencies, for example:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
This is recognition of what you have done in the past (eg. previous work, Statement of Attainment from a previous program).
Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
This is recognition of the skills and knowledge you currently display in your workplace and/or outside work. These are then measured against the outcomes set for the program in which you are enrolled. Skills Recognition may only be granted for programs displaying the ‘Nationally Recognised Training’ logo.
How does it work?
If you decide to apply for Skills Recognition you will be asked to record on an Application Form the specific knowledge, skills and workplace competence you already possess. You will then be asked to attend an interview with a qualified assessor. The information submitted in the application and interview will determine whether you possess the required competencies.
Mutual Recognition of Qualifications
Under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) standards, AIM recognises and accepts the assessment decisions of Statements of Attainment and Qualifications issued by any other Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
How much does it cost?
The Skills Recognition fee is detailed on the table below.
What should I do now?
To determine if you might be eligible for Skills Recognition you will need to refer to the learning outcomes of the specific programs in the Directory. If you think your competence matches the learning outcomes contact AIM for more detailed information.
